Genesis 4:3-10 - The Blood of Abel

Additional Notes

God's greater plan in Abel's murder was for it to be:

  • Fulfillment of prophecy of the warfare to come between the righteous seed of Eve and the unrighteous seed of Satan.
  • Foreshadowing of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Abel's blood speaks in the following ways:

  • His death and the record of it forms the Word of God, the rejection of which brings condemnation.
  • When Cain killed Abel and people killed the other prophets, each was a judgment against that generation and would later be held against those rejecting Jesus Christ, as those deaths foreshadowed His crucifixion.
  • By contrast, Abel was a mere man whose death brought condemnation, while the death of Jesus Christ brings life to those who believe.
